Siliguri is the gateway to eastern India. The town is strategically located near the international borders with Bangladesh and Nepal. Bhutan and China border is also not very far. Access to the north-east India also passes through Siliguri. This has resulted into great strategic importance of the town both in economic and political sense.
Bidhan Market – A shopper’s paradise. Located on the hill cart road, this market offers a wide variety of article. North Bengal Science Centre – This is a unit of the National council of science museums. At a distance of about 6 km from the town located on the national highway, the science centre is spread over 10 acres of land and attracts tourists and locals equally due to its popular science gallery. Mahananda Wild Life Sanctuary – the sanctuary is located in the city outskirts. The entry point to the sanctuary has a Forest museum. Tourists may visit Gulma khola inside the forests during the day.
Siliguri Park – located on the Mahananda river bed, this is one of the most common places for the city dwellers to spend the evening. Darjeeling Darjeeling is known as the queen of the hills. The town famous for its tea gardens and the beautiful view of the kanchenjunga range of mountains that it provides. The Darjeeling Himalayan Railway commonly known as the toy train, runs regularly from Siliguri to Darjeeling. The train has been awarded World Heritage status by the UNESCO. Major tourist attractions of Darjeeling include the Lloyd Botanical garden, Bengal Natural History Museum, Himalayan Mountaineering Institute etc. Dooars
